An Austin-based game publisher struggled with uptime that strained their ability to accept payments online. Through a partnership with GCS Technologies and OnRamp, the two companies created a more effective IT structure that provides better security, increased stability and faster response when the organization’s employees need assistance.

The Challenge

As the popularity of the publisher’s games soared, technology requirements to support their business increased. However, they found the tremendous growth they had experienced was beginning to put a strain on their existing outsourced IT provider and its selected data center partner.

Unable to provide adequate responsiveness to their internal employees, the organization’s former managed IT service provider proved ill-equipped to handle their support needs. In addition, the provider’s chosen data center was unable to maintain an appropriate level of service and failed to offer the ability to quickly scale the publisher’s IT operations.

As a result, the company sought to refresh their IT infrastructure and find a strategic partner that could provide the level of responsiveness and technical capabilities to meet their current and future growth.

Our Solution

The organization’s IT manager initiated a relationship with GCS and OnRamp. GCS and OnRamp often work together to provide fully supported IT infrastructure solutions, from the data center layer all the way through the application layer.

Data center migrations often include hidden complexities that can cause costly delays or downtime for employees. Following an assessment of the primary and secondary site infrastructures, GCS assisted in allocating the appropriate resources to enable a safe transition into one of OnRamp’s state-of-the-art facilities. This allowed the game publisher to conduct business as usual with minimized production downtime.

“GCS is great at listening to our customers, which helped move us through scoping and quoting quickly, and their attention to detail made sure the implementation finished on time and under budget”

Chad Kissinger, President and Founder at OnRamp Data Centers

As the organization’s migration partner, GCS managed and coordinated all aspects of the project, including preparation, staging, deployment, and testing through a dedicated project management schedule. This included access to GCS’ Tier III support, a unique support option for customers that allowed the organization’s team faster response on their most difficult or advanced problems.

Results

The game publisher’s data center migration allowed the company to continue their impressive growth without worrying about lagging technology or vendors. By colocating their existing IT environment with OnRamp, the company benefits from the ability to layer on additional cloud-delivered services including managed backups and managed bandwidth to help them account for their high availability and uptime needs. With OnRamp’s status as an SSAE 16 SOC II audited company, and GCS Technologies’ history of providing world-class support, the publisher can rest assured knowing their IT environment will remain safe, secure and fully operational 24/7/365.

In addition, before the migration, the company struggled with poor response times and missed SLA deadlines that limited their employee productivity. Now, they are able to ensure projects stay on track and has the confidence that issues will be resolved quickly. With dedicated response time guarantees, the company can ensure that response times for non-emergencies go from an unpredictable number of hours to one hour or less.

Finally, the organization’s migration allowed the company to ensure better stability for their in-game purchases. By providing higher guaranteed uptime during peak purchase periods, increasing reliability for customers allowed the organization to increase convenience throughout the payment process.
